Widening participation is a part of government education policy in the UK and Plymouth University has a regional, national and international reputation for its work to date in this area; it is one of the University's five ambitions outlined in the University Strategic Plan, Embedding Enterprise. The University's Widening Participation strategy embraces a targeted approach to identified groups who are and have been historically under represented in Higher Education (HE). The strategy focuses primarily on three priority target groups - those disadvantaged by socio economic class, disability, and through childhood experience in care. A key feature of our approach is working with carefully identified target schools.
